ARTWIFE Magazine invites unsolicited submissions of literary art, visual art, and video art through our Submittable platform. We do not accept poetry submissions. We're open to submissions 2 months each season:

[WINTER] January and February

[SPRING] April and May

[SUMMER] July and August

[AUTUMN] October and November

Submissions are closed March, June, September, and December. Note: Submissions will also be closed August 2025 as we transition to this new system.

So that we may pay our contributors, ARTWIFE places a cap on the number of free submissions we receive. This limited number of free submissions becomes available at the beginning of each submission period (January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1). The free submission option will appear as long as slots remain available; if you don't see the free submission option, it means our cap has been reached and free submissions have been automatically closed for the rest of the period. Paid submissions ($5) will remain available through the rest of the submission period. If your financial situation is such that you require a free submission, be sure to have your work ready to submit on the very first day of the submission period. (If your financial situation is such that you are able to comfortably afford a $5 reading fee, consider leaving a free submission slot open for someone who needs it. Thank you!)

Work selected for publication in the magazine receives a $20 honorarium. If your work is accepted for publication, you must provide us with your Venmo or PayPal handle within 7 days of acceptance to be eligible to receive payment. No payments will be processed after 7 days of acceptance. ARTWIFE maintains one-time publication rights, after which all rights revert back to the creator.

Review the guidelines carefully. If your work does not meet the criteria listed here, it will be automatically declined.

Submission Guidelines

Literary Art

We accept submissions of original fiction (short stories) and creative nonfiction (essays) up to 3000 words. Flash is also welcome. We are exceedingly unlikely to publish genre fiction. To get an understanding of the type of writing we publish, read sample work here and here.

Visual Art

You may submit up to 5 original images in a single submission. If we like your work, but none of the 5 images are right for us, we may ask to see more from your portfolio. Please upload well-shot, high-quality photos of your work. If we like your work but the images are uneven at the borders, or have unintentional glares or shadows, they will not be published. Video Art

You may submit 1 original video up to 4 minutes long. Videos can be narrative-driven, but they don’t have to be. To get an understanding of the type of work we publish, view a sample here.

You may have ONE active submission per category at the same time. (For instance, you might submit one short story and one video.) However, you may not submit more than once in a single category. Please wait until we have made a decision on your work before submitting again in the same category. If you have more than one active submission in a single category at the same time, all work will be automatically declined without review. We do not give feedback on declined work.

We accept simultaneous submissions. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please immediately withdraw it from our consideration through your Submittable account. If we make the first decision to accept your work, please immediately withdraw that piece from other outlets where it's being considered.

Please note that it can take us anywhere from several weeks to a few months to reach a decision (unless you choose an Expedited Response option, in which case you'll hear from us within 14 days). Submitting to our magazine adds you to our monthly newsletter. You may unsubscribe any time.
